Salsa. Music that tells stories of love found, love lost, independence, life..... it goes on and on. Ironiclly I did this mix the night before Salsa legend Joe Arroyo passed and am happy to say there are a few of his songs on it. I have wanted to do a Classic Salsa compilation for a long time and on this night I just got up and did it. Not rehearsed, I just included some of the songs that have always touched me emotionally growing up. These are selections that bring me back to my youth, being with family, dancing and laughing. This is a mix every music lover, dancer, socialite, musician etc. should have in their collection. DJs feel free to trow it on so you can dance w/ that cutie you've been eyeing the whole night. In this groovy yet high energy mix you will find familiar sounds, obvious hints of tribal drum patterns, soulful vocals, techy grooves and futuristic sounds just like House Music. Some of these tracks sound so fresh you'd never think they were written & recorded in the late 70's. I tried to keep it rare but friendly. Tribe Called Quest. One of my favorite rap groups of all time, I had to do a best of. Tribe has always been ahead of their time. Fusing Jazz, Funk, and Disco beats w/ hip hop, their sampled grooves and art of storytelling have made them icons in the hip hop world.
This is my representation of Tribe. You'll find rare B-sides and UK remixes as well as familiar releases that you've been listening and dancing to for virtually two decades.
